Following recent development work, Chantry Chapel is now looking to become involved in the increasingly popular bi-monthly Wakefield Art Walk, where venues around the city centre open their doors to display various forms of art to the public. Improvements have been made within the Chapel to provide a suitable location for educational, social and spiritual purposes and to generally make it more user friendly. Following last minute negotiations with Wakefield based exhibition group Gallery Arts, the Chapel is now able to be included in the September Art Walk programme and will open its doors from 5pm to 9pm on the evening of 29th with ‘An Audience With Gallery Arts,’ when members will be exhibiting a selection of their art and photography and will be available to discuss their work.
Following on from this, Gallery Arts will be involved with The Friends of Chantry Chapel in organising future Art Walk events and local art, photographic, social and historical groups and societies will be invited to use the premises and the group’s exhibition stands.
Using the theme ‘’ An Audience With? ‘’ it is intended that the Chapel will play host to groups or individual artists in order to provide everyone with an opportunity to involve the public in their latest project.
This is a fascinating time for the arts in Wakefield with the new Hepworth Wakefield gallery opening in 2011. This will undoubtedly bring many visitors to the city and every effort must be made to raise awareness that Wakefield is a superb place for art and culture, beginning with the abundance of talent that can be seen on the Wakefield Art Walk.
If you are interested in exhibiting your work or holding an event in the Chapel please contact Brian Holding brian@bholding.f9.co.uk or Kate Taylor kate@airtime.co.uk
