I come from Wakefield in West Yorkshire and have made a career in manufacturing management, so as such my painting has had to play second fiddle.
I have had no formal art training but have drawn and painted since childhood. Whilst appreciating most art I have always preferred modern styles with texture and strong colour.
My passion is contemporary landscape. I will use any medium but I prefer water colour, often using it thick like oil paint rather than the traditional dilution method that delivers lighter more opaque pictures. Recently I have been adopting mixed media techniques to bring depth to my work.
I draw inspiration from the diverse landscape of Britain but the rugged coast of West Cornwall, with it's strong light, is my favourite area.
My major influences are the contemporary West Country artists Michael Morgan and Kurt Jackson who both depict landscapes in their own unique, but much copied style.
